BIOGRAPHY OF ASHA N. BURWELL, ESQ.
Asha received her undergraduate education at Howard University and her legal education at the UDC David A. Clarke School of Law.
She has channeled her passion for justice while contributing programming to the "Inside-Out Program" prison reform courses within the D.C. prison system as a Howard student, organizing a high-profile national march against rape culture, as well as a peaceful sit-in at the U.S Supreme Court to highlight violence against Black women.
In addition, as a law student, Asha worked as a student attorney for UDC Law’s Youth Justice Clinic where she collectively authored an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States and advocated for youth offenders and juvenile lifers in the District.
Asha has also participated in various social justice initiatives and programs, including: Harvard Law’s Systemic Justice Institute, the DC Public Defender’s Office, and many community-based volunteer organizations. She has experience working as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Baltimore City Circuit Court and Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center. She also has experience working in the child abuse and neglect sector at the Children's Law Center in Washington D.C.
Asha has used her service and experience to be of service to the community through the legal profession.
